Motion Film Assignment for Choreographer/ Director Leisel Drysdale & Ballet West
Scheduled to premiere in late 2025, Red Right Hand is a striking performance cinema piece which we had the pleasure of shooting in early 2025. The cinematic performance was directed and expertly choreographed by Liesel Drysdale, daughter of both Director Danny Drysdale and Executive Producer Britte Sappington who I’ve had the pleasure of working with over the last 2 decades. Set against the atmospheric backdrop of The Rivoli Theater in Springville Utah, this project blends cinematic storytelling with live performance to create an immersive visual experience.
The film aimed to immerse audiences in a post-World War I city recovering from the devastation of war and economic hardship, with Cinematographer Keith Grover and a small crew working together to craft a dramatic atmosphere through volumetric and theatrical lighting, enhancing the sense of drama, style, and excitement.
The film’s intricate choreography and atmospheric setting reflect both the cultural upheaval and the stoic endurance of a city reborn from the ashes of conflict.
Red Right Hand is a bold fusion of cinema, choreography, and live performance, offering a unique exploration of history, art, and emotion.Set to Nick Cave’s haunting Red Right Hand, the performance evokes a vintage gangster chic or sartorial style, merging the elegance of dance with the dark, sharp edges of the post-war world.
